A well-researched, lively volume that leavens the Ellis Island experience with humor, fairy-tale magic, and an appealing plot — Kirkus Review
My new book SAILING BACK TO ELLIS ISLAND, due to be published next month, got its second GREAT review. Besides my favorite part, quoted above, Kirkus Review also says, “Collen admirably balances fact and fiction while also using humor—the fairies, for example, react to circumstances variously with confetti, fireworks, a disembodied congratulatory hand, and historic documents and paraphernalia, among other things.” It is a great feeling when someone, especially a reviewer, gets your jokes!Lest you think the reviewer ignored the brilliant illustrations in the book, the Kirkus Review also said, “Accomplished illustrator Trumble’s (Twinkle, Twinkle, 2014, etc.) witty, full-page drawings and visual accents are a fine match for the text.” This illustration to the right is my favorite in the book. (Well, maybe not — they are all great! Just having ONE favorite is like trying to pick only one flavor of ice cream for my ice cream cone.)David and I both agree: this is our best book yet.The publishing of the book is getting as fun as the actual writing was! I am busy talking with my publicist, Marcy Clark of Marcy Clark PR & Events, to plan an exciting launch right at the National Park on Ellis Island itself. Stay tuned for how you can win a free trip to Ellis Island and the launch party.CHECK OUT the review FOR YOURSELF! SAILING BACK TO ELLIS ISLAND© Jane F.
