It's a Wonderful Life!

As Fall Yields to Winter, So much is written about the holiday season – how to organize your shopping, get the best deals, establish traditions for your family, see the best events, keep your perspective --how to survive them! But after fretting over all of it I realized – the only thing I need to enjoy the holidays is to know myself!  I identified what sent me over the edge -- traffic, the mall, too much sugar for me and the kids (to name a few) and what I enjoyed --easy -- My Kids.  I found that whenever I got too far astray, reconnecting with the wonder and awe that just seemed to naturally exude from my children revived me.  How did I cope with crawling down the highway when we were already late?  More time to play 20 questions!!Ok, it is never that easy. But I realized that my kids did not need as much from me as I thought.  Really all they needed was for me to be present – to see snow, not as a driving hazard but as an opportunity to play! – hooky, making forts, snowball fights, sledding, snow angels!  And to see every situation as an opportunity for growth and enjoyment, even long lines at the stores.  My kids helped me get in touch with my resourceful creative side (because the alternative was to become Ghastly Gevinda, the mean Fairy!)  And to me that is the magic of any season. My kids are the source of the magic of the holidays.  I just had to make sure I scheduled time to enjoy them. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
