independent Bookstore DayA few years ago, in California, a collection of a few far-flung stores started Independent Bookstore Day. Since then it has grown into a major national event at bookstores around the country. Though some states celebrate at different times, Independent Bookstore Day is quickly becoming something we always look forward to in early May.Our lives are hectic and we often put books aside as we try to accomplish more and more and more in a day. But books provide clarity and calm, something we could all use. On Saturday, May 2nd head to your local bookstore and be reminded of the stories you've been missing. You may find something you've needed all along - authors enjoy releasing special editions on Independent Bookstore Day. Illustrators make appearances, authors do more personalized signing, and visitors meet up with other book lovers.Celebrate on Saturday, May 2nd (it's getting close) by visiting a local bookstore near you. You never know what you might find.
